Outreach

St. Charles community is dedicated to service. We hope to teach our children to be more like Jesus, Serving, Caring, and Becoming.

Part of our community service includes delivering Mobile Meals, Christmas caroling to the sick, homebound, and nursing home residents. The  eighth grade visits a school in the Head Start Project. The eighth grade students deliver presents and spend time playing and getting to know the children.

We participate in the Harvest Food Drive, and collect food throughout the school year for the food pantry. Thanksgiving and Christmas food baskets are delivered to those in need. All grades help collect stocking stuffers for the Salvation Army Christmas Stockings. During Advent and Lent we take up collections for the poor box.

The small, white frame house sits on a side street next to the ball field of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church.  You would think it was just another house in the neighborhood, but people gathering on the front porch know it is much, much more.

The St. Charles-McAuley Clinic provides free health services and medicine for people who could not otherwise afford even basic medical care.  Since it opened in September of 1993, the clinic has helped hundreds of people from all over Oklahoma City.  The clinic came about through the efforts of the Social Ministry Board of St. Charles parish.  The church was using the house at 4915 N. State Street as a meeting place, but felt the space could be put to better use.  After investigating several possibilities, the board decided to develop a free neighborhood medical clinic.

Board members provided the labor to renovate the property.  They approached local health centers, like Mercy Hospital, to help out and fill some of the gaps.  They recruited physicians, nurses and parishioners to work as volunteers, and they obtained donated medicine to start a pharmacy.
