 Permission to Participate

Message from Father Gallatin to all spectators for sporting events:

The Catholic Grade School Athletic Association and St. Charles Borromeo Parish extend an invitation to our coaches, fans and visitors to help us in demonstrating good sportsmanship.

  Your attendance at an interscholastic activity is a privilege, a privilege to watch youngsters compete and learn on the court.  One of the lessons taught to players is one spectators should follow as well – that of good sportsmanship.   

Do unto others, as you would have others do unto you.

Cheer for your team, not against the opponent.

Recognize good performances by either team.

Respect the integrity and judgment of the game officials.

Behave in a Christian manner at all times.

Don’t use abusive or profane language.

Don’t “boo” or use personal put-downs.

Don’t criticize officials or display your temper with an official call.

Don’t abuse coaches, officials, players or other spectators in any way.

  Un-sportsmanlike conduct could result in ejection from the property at the discretion of game or gym officials.

  A coach once wrote, “When we lose without excuses and we acknowledge the better team, we place winning and losing in their proper perspectives.”  Christian spectators should keep their sporting interests in perspective.

Volleyball is offered to girls in fifth through eighth grade.  Games are on Saturday or Sunday afternoons.

In the fall, students in grades kindergarten through eighth can participate in soccer through the Catholic School league.

Seventh and eighth grade students can play fall football through the Catholic School League. Coaches at Bishop McGuinness High School or Mount Saint Mary teach them.

Always popular,  basketball is now offered kindergarten through eighth grade. Kindergarten through third grade plays in the Christian Basketball League at the Lighthouse. Fourth through eighth grade play though the Catholic Grade School League. Fourth - eighth play in two or three tournaments per season.

 

Softball and baseball are offered for students in kindergarten through eighth grade. Students play for local P.C.O. leagues.

Cross-Country track is offered to seventh and eighth grade students to compete through Bishop McGuinness High School. In the fall 1998 both the boys and girls team were invited to compete at the State Competition. They did great! An all school spring track team competes for the school during the annual Bishop McGuinness High School track meet.

Please download, complete the permission slip, and return it to St. Charles.  Students must have a current form to be allowed to play.
